Thirty Years of Celebration
As people grow and mature, they make considerable progress every ten years in terms of experience and wisdom. At thirty years of age, a person becomes more stable and he is poised to make even more rapid development and greater achievements. The history of our association has followed this principle. As Confucious once said "At age thirty, one can stand firmly on the ground". Thirty years of continuous effort and struggle have finally borne fruit; we have indeed stood up!
When we reflect closely upon our history, we should be deeply grateful to the pioneers who had the vision to establish the Chinese Language Program and found the Association. Not only have they preserved the Chinese language and culture for future generations, they have also enhanced cultural interaction and exchange with other groups and consequently, made a positive impact in building mutual respect and understanding throughout the entire community.
More recently, with the establishment of the Chinese Heritage Foundation, we have presented fundraising banquets and concerts, Chinese opera and wushu performances in order to build the first Chinese (multi) cultural Center in
southern California. Through the tireless and committed spirit of our volunteers, we have expanded our membership and won new friends in the corporate world, local and state government, and the community. More importantly, we now have enough funds to complete the initial stage of land acquisition. Once the Center is completed, we can share our experience with others and work to promote solidarity within the Chinese-American community and elevate its
standing while fostering harmony and respect among diverse social groups. We can eliminate prejudice and hatred and establish ourselves firmly as community pillars through our dedication to and practice of family values.
Thirty years is an important milestone. Through many years of patience and direct experience, we've become more disciplined and stronger. We are ready to provide even better services to our community. We are confident we can meet any challenge in the new millennium and fulfill a glorious destiny.
